Flora and vegetation surveys by a South West botanist
The South West of Western Australia is a global biodiversity hotspot, and many sites carry Threatened or Priority listed plants and Threatened Ecological Communities. A flora and vegetation survey records what is growing on your site and how significant it is, so decisions about clearing, design and management are made on good information.
Eco Logic is led by botanist Kay Lehman. Surveys follow EPA guidance for terrestrial flora and vegetation surveys in Western Australia, so the results can support statutory assessments, permits and approvals.
What we can help with
- Detailed and reconnaissance (Level 1 and 2) flora and vegetation surveys to EPA guidance
- Targeted Threatened and Priority listed flora surveys
- Vegetation type and condition mapping
- Survey and management plans for remnant vegetation areas
- Vegetation impact management plans
- Dieback and weed management plans
When you might need this
- You are planning a subdivision, building envelope or access track through native vegetation
- A clearing permit or EPA referral needs flora survey data to support it
- You want to know whether rare or Threatened plants occur on your property
- You need a plan to protect remnant bushland, manage dieback or control weeds
Where we work
Eco Logic is based in Margaret River and works across the South West of Western Australia, including Margaret River, Busselton, Dunsborough, Augusta, Bunbury, Albany and Perth, and on projects further afield in Kalgoorlie, Geraldton and Esperance.
Questions
When is the best time for a flora survey in the South West?
Many South West plants, including orchids, are only identifiable when flowering, which is mostly in spring. Targeted surveys for particular species are timed to their flowering period. Eco Logic can advise on timing for your site and plan around project deadlines.
What is the difference between a reconnaissance and a detailed flora survey?
A reconnaissance survey gives an overview of the vegetation and its condition and flags likely values. A detailed survey adds more intensive sampling and targeted searches for significant species. The right level depends on the size of the project and what the regulator needs.
